The New Zealand curriculum exemplars form a vital part of the Government's national assessment strategy. The exemplars help to answer the questions: ÒWhat do we mean by quality work?Ó and ÒWhat might student progress look like?Ó They signal important things in students' work for teachers to watch for, collect information about, and act on to support growth in student learning. Teachers might use the exemplars initially to help set specific, challenging goals with students or as a focus for staff discussion.
